On June 29-July 1, 2016, the Center of Surgical Innovation held a three-day practical workshop “Surgical liver resection” with Oleg Kotenko, Doctor of Medicine, hepatobiliary transplantology surgeon, as course expert and Denis Fedorov, Candidate of Medicine, hepatobiliary transplantology surgeon, as course instructor.
The unique course programme included the following topics: anatomy based approach to surgical liver resection, liver parenchyma transection techniques, surgical tactics in treating liver tumors with arterial vessels invasion, hilar cholangiocarcinoma surgery. Together with Oleg Kotenko’s team hepatobiliary surgeons from Ukrainian hospitals analyzed patient cases and worked together in the operating rooms. They mastered their skills on organic complexes working with different surgical instruments for liver transection.
The course finished with a traditional Vet Lab practice.
With the help of the course instructor the surgeons performed open and laparoscopic liver resection at the NIST after A. Shalimov Experimental Surgery Department.
