During March 27-29, 2019, an updated three-day course on liver surgery was conducted at the Center of Surgical Innovations under the direction of Doctor of Medical Science, Prof. Oleg Kotenko.
Students visited a specialized cycle of lectures on tactics for the care of patients with surgical pathology of the liver according to modern evidence-based standards prepared by the staff of the Department of Surgery and Liver Transplantation and it has been read by PhD in medicine Fedorov Denis.
There were considered surgical aspects of treatment of primary and metastatic liver cancer in detail in the theoretical part of the course.
The main principles of vascular reconstructions with complex tumor lesions were highlighted on the examples of high-tech surgical interventions using transplant technologies performed on the basis of National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology named O. Shalimov NAMS of Ukraine.
There were reviewed and illustrated by examples from the clinic's experience impressions and benefits of the laparoscopic resection of the liver in patients with early forms of primary liver cancer.
A separate lecture by Alexander Ostapishen was dedicated to the basics of liver transplantation from a living relative donor. It outlines the current state of the problem and achievements in this area.
During the practical part, the students were given an unprecedented opportunity to observe the modern technique of performing extensive resection interventions in patients with common forms of cancer of the liver and receive comments from leading specialists in the industry.
At the end of the course, the participants fixed the acquired during training technical skills in performing liver resections using all types of common surgical energy on animal models in the VET-LAB.
