On 20-24 July, 2015 the Center of Surgical Innovation held a week long professional development course for surgeons “Practical skills of laparoscopic surgery” (the course instructor – V. Shkarban).
A group of researchers from the NIST after A. Shalimov, the National Institute of cancer and the medical network “Dobrobut” arranged a special lecture program for the course members. The topics discussed were: “Iatrogenic injuries of the bile ducts in laparoscopy and laparotomy” (Professor, Doctor of Medicine A. Skums); “Laparoscopic methods of treating hernias” (Candidate of Medicine S. Kosiukhno); “Miniinvasive technologies in colorectal surgery” (Candidate of Medicine E. Miroshnichenko); “Basics of laparoscopic liver resection” (Candidate of Medicine A. Lukashenko); “Basics of laparoscopic technique” (Candidate of Medicine T. Petrenko); “Types of surgical energies and their appliance in laparoscopy” (a service engineer A.Astapenkov).
During the practical part of the course the doctors trained on the laparoscopic simulators practising the basic methods of mini invasive surgical intervention, using laparoscopic instruments and exercising in suturing on boards and biological tissue.
In the operating room during VET LAB the doctors got a splendid opportunity to practise the basic laparoscopic techniques on the lab swines, to test high frequency, plasma and ultrasonic devices from the leading manufacturers of surgical equipment.
Under the skillful guidance of the course instructor the surgeons successfully carried out a number of surgical interventions, such as: cholecystectomy, hernioplastics, liver resection, intestine resection, hemicolectomy, nephrectomy, splenectomy.
Following the course program the surgeons discussed some clinical cases, analyzed the tactics of surgical treatment and attended the operations performed by the leading experts of the NIST.
Upon completion of the improvement course the surgeons received the state certificates of the National Medical Academy of Post- Graduate education after P. Shupik.
The CSI team wish all the course participants success and further achievements.
You are always welcome in the CSI!
