On September 26-30, 2016 the Center of Surgical Innovation held a week long professional development course for surgeons “Practical skills of laparoscopic surgery”, the course instructors- Candidate of Medicine A. Kalashnikov (NIST after Shalimov) and A. Potapov (NMAPE after P.Shupik).
The course was attended by the doctors from different regions of Ukraine.
The eventful course program included every day practice on laparoscopic simulators, visiting the operating rooms at the NIST after A. Shalimov, a theory part and a vet lab training.
The SCI lecturers spoke on the following topics: types of surgical energies, the basics of laparoscopic techniques, iatrogenic injuries of the bile duct in laparoscopy and laparotomy, laparoscopic methods of treating hernias, laparoscopy in bariatric surgery.
On the laparoscopic simulators the doctors practised dissection, ligation and they exercised in suturing on boards.
In the operating room, during the vet lab, the doctors got a splendid opportunity to practise the basic laparoscopic techniques on the lab swine, to test high frequency, plasma and ultrasonic devices from the leading manufacturers of surgical equipment.
Under the guidance of the course instructor the surgeons successfully carried out a number of surgical interventions, among them: cholecystectomy, hemicolectomy, nephrectomy, splenectomy, anastomosis, endoscopic hemostasis.
