On March 10-12, 2016 the CSI held a three day workshop on laparoscopic herniology where a group of surgeons from Odessa, Poltava, Kiev and Kiev region were present.
The course program was very rich this time. The leading experts of the NIST after A. Shalimov Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery Department Candidates of Medicine S. Kosukhno, A. Kalashnikov and A. Perekhrestenko shared their advanced experience with the surgeons present.
The theory part of the seminar included lectures on laparoscopic methods for inguinal hernia treatment, difference between TAP and TEPP methods, laparoscopy hernioplasty for post-operative and umbilical hernia. The course participants attended a lecture on knotting and suturing and they could exercise on laparoscopic simulators, too.
A Covidien representative introduced the company’s devices for hernioplasty (mesh prostheses, herniostaplers).
The seminar arranged a master-class on TAPP with a new ProGrip. mesh prosthesis being applied. The operation was conducted by the course instructors at the A. Shalimov Institute.
At the Experimental Department of the A.Shalimov NIST the surgeons exercised in the methods of laparoscopy hernioplastics (TAPP, TEP, IPOM, fundoplication). During the training the surgeons practised setting mesh prostheses, herniostaplers and their fixation by herniostaplers.
At the seminar the surgeons actively discussed some patients’ cases and shared their experience with the colleagues.
The Center of Surgical Innovation would like to thank the workshop’s instructors S. Kosukhno and A. Kalashnikov for holding an intense and interesting course and our sponsor company, Covidien, for supplying the seminar with materials and devices.
