On December 8-12, 2014 the Center of Surgical Innovation held another intensive improvement course in laparoscopic surgery. Surgeons from Kiev, Zhytomyr and Krasnoarmeysk gathered in the Center to raise their level of knowledge in laparoscopic surgery and go through intensive training.
The course program involved hearing subject lectures and watching video materials with their following discussion. The supervisor of the course V. Shkarban paid special attention to the problems of iatrogenic injuries as well as the basics of laparoscopic technique.
The surgeons of the course had their everyday practice on simulators improving their manual skills in laparoscopy, they learned the techniques of knotting when training on the plates and on the biological material and they practised laparoscopic equipment, too.
During the final day of the course the doctors trained in the Experimental Department of the A. Shalimov Institute of Surgery and Transplantology. The surgeons practised their operating skills on the biological material (laboratory swine). They were focused on operating laparoscopic equipment, setting ports, placing trocars, working with ultrasonic scissors, argon plasma coagulation The surgeons performed some surgical operations (choledochectomy, cholecystectomy, nephrectomy, bowel resection, splenectomy, enteroenteroanastomosis).
It is important to note that the surgeons of the course took the opportunity of assisting the leading experts of the Institute in the laparoscopic operations.
After the course was completed, the participants received the corresponding certificates of the P. Shupik Academy of Postgraduate Education.
