On February22-26, 2016 the Center of Surgical Innovation held a week long professional development course for surgeons “Practical skills of laparoscopic surgery” (the course instructor – Candidate of Medicine A. Kalashnikov).
The course was attended by the doctors from Odessa, Lviv, Zaparozhie, Alexandria, Kiev and Kiev region.
The eventful course program included every day practice on laparoscopic simulators, visiting the operating rooms at the NIST after A. Shalimov, theory course and vet lab on a lab pig.
The SCI lecturers spoke on the following topics: the basics of laparoscopic techniques, iatrogenic injuries of the bile ducts in laparoscopy and laparotomy, basics of laparoscopic liver resection, laparoscopic methods of treating hernias, laparoscopic surgery in emergency cases, basic laparoscopy in colorectal surgery. The SCI partner, Covidien, presented their new products and devices.
The medical equipment engineer conducted a seminar on types of surgical energies and their appliance in laparoscopy.
During the practical part of the course the doctors trained on the laparoscopic simulators - practised dissection, ligation and exercised in suturing on boards.
In the operating room, during the VET LAB, the doctors got a splendid opportunity to practise the basic laparoscopic techniques on the lab swines, to test high frequency, plasma and ultrasonic devices from the leading manufacturers of surgical equipment.
Under the guidance of the course instructor the surgeons successfully carried out a number of surgical interventions, among them: cholecystectomy, liver resection, intestine resection, hemicolectomy, nephrectomy, splenectomy anastomosis, and some others.
Upon completion of the course the doctors got their certificates.
